Subway franchisee gets better informed
Written on the 21 February 2010 by Fiona Taylor
Subway franchisee Sam El-Debel is already reaping the rewards of improving his franchise training.
“It’s the best decision I ever made,” Sam said.
“I’ve been able to negotiate better franchise agreements and better inform myself of what to expect.”
Sam enrolled in the Franchising specialist course at Griffith University.
Being based in Sydney he took advantage of the online study option, accessing the course lectures and materials over the internet.
He tuned in live to lectures when he could, interacting with other students and asking questions in real time.
Sam listened to recorded lectures in his own time when he couldn’t make them live and even flew to Queensland twice during the Semester, including once for the McDonald’s field trip.
“The course has been very useful for setting realistic short and long terms goals with my business,” Sam said.
“I also found the new friends and networks to be invaluable.”
Throughout the course a number of franchise sector guest speakers came to share their experiences and expertise with the students.
Sam said he really enjoyed this aspect of the course.
“I found the industry guest speakers very insightful,” Sam said.
“The teaching staff were excellent too! They were very supportive and they understood our work commitments and were flexible.”
Completing the course at the end of 2009, Sam has already applied to extend his franchise education even further with the Graduate Certificate in Franchising.
And, if you’re thinking of studying Sam has this message for you:
“It’s the best decision I ever made and it’ll be the best decision you’ll ever make!” he said.
