Do you think the Australian Federal Government franchise regulation reforms will have a positive impact on the sector?

Franchise courses applications close next week – apply now!

Written on the 15th of July 2010 by Fiona Taylor

If you’ve been thinking about increasing your franchise skills then you need to apply now ― applications for both the specialist Franchising course and the Graduate Certificate in Franchising close next week.

Courses commence the following week.

The specialist Franchising course provides a complete overview of franchising and is offered entirely online, or face-to-face at Griffith University’s South Bank Campus, Brisbane.

It is also one of the four courses that makes up the Graduate Certificate in Franchising degree, and is a great stepping stone into the full Graduate Certificate.

Asia-Pacific Centre for Franchising Excellence Director and Dean (Learning and Teaching) in the Griffith Business School Professor Lorelle Frazer said the specialist Franchising course was an ideal way to enter university.

“If people are unsure about studying, or may not have enough professional experience or a formal qualification to gain entry into the Graduate Certificate, then the specialist Franchising course is for them,” Professor Frazer said.

“The Franchising course provides the opportunity to upgrade your franchise skills, and upon successful completion of the course students can gain entry into the full Graduate Certificate in Franchising.

“If after the franchising course they decide study isn’t for them, they have still given their skills and career a really franchise-specific boost.”

One student who did decide to continue studying was Complete Framing Franchisor Andrew Scott, who became the first graduate of the Graduate Certificate in Franchising.  The Coffee Club Property and Franchise Development Coordinator Amie Windrim also completed the specialist Franchising course before conintuing with her education, and found the networking aspect of the course invaluable.

The specialist Franchising course runs for 13 weeks and the Graduate Certificate is made up of four 13-week courses, which can be completed one or two at a time.

Courses in the Graduate Certificate in Franchising include:

  • the specialist Franchising course,
  • Accounting for Managers,
  • Leadership and Self Development, and
  • Service Sector Marketing and Operations.

“Many of our students start with the Franchising course, love studying and the new skills they gain and continue onto the Graduate Certificate in Franchising ― some even keep going and complete a Master of Business Administration.”

If the courses are directly related to your paid employment the costs are tax deductible and government FEE-HELP may be available for Australian residents.

The specialist Franchising course costs $2072.50 for Australian residents and the Graduate Certificate in Franchising is paid on a course by course basis, coming to a total of $8290 for Australian residents. Costs are slightly higher for international students.
